Unique Pieces With One-Of-A-Kind

Since 2005 the Viennese fashion designer Christiane Gruber has been hand sewing, dyeing, and bleaching exclusive collections made from flowing bio-quality jersey. Designs from her label Awareness & Consciousness are available in her A&C Store in Vienna.

In her diploma collection at the fashion class of the University of Applied Arts Vienna from the beginning of 2000 Christiane Gruber already experimented with simple materials and special dyeing techniques. For example, back then she dyed batiste bed linen to a darker tone and transformed it into a piece of clothing.

When she founded her own label Awareness & Consciousness in 2005 the Styrian designer fully specialized in dyeing. She develops elaborate techniques for each collection; every piece is dyed or bleached by hand, resulting in unique pieces with one-of-a-kind, colorful patterns. She has also remained faithful to (and further refined) the soft, flowing materials – first and foremost high-grade, bio-quality jersey – and classic-elegant, comfortable cuts.

Timeless And Seasonless Editions

Since 2011 Gruber has been concentrating on the artistic process in her designs – limited, timeless, and seasonless editions, which she personally manufactures in her studio in Vienna.

In 2012 Gruber launched a second label: A&C BASIC, a line consisting of accessories and baby and children’s fashion, produced primarily out of biological cotton. Here, too, sustainable production conditions are important to the fashion designer.

Gruber’s sewing machine is in her own shop and showroom – on Lindengasse in the midst of the creative quarter in Vienna’s 7th district. Here you’ll not only find her limited collections; there’s also fashion by exclusive labels, largely based in Austria. That’s why the A&C Store & Studio stands both for Awareness & Consciousness as well as Accessoires & Clothing.
