Art-hall, fair, gallery and studio
The time has come again: Young and already established contemporary art will be presented for the fourth time in a row. Spread out on an area of 7000 square metres the charming Alte Post will gather art associantions, galleries, project spaces, curated projects, independant curators and artists rooms.
"Parallel Vienna ist something in-between a festival and a museum-show. That's the trend ."
The goal is to place more of the Austrian art production in an international context, where more potential for contemporary artists exists. On one hand, young artists miss galleries and on the other hand there’s not enough space for young positions. This is a deficit that Parallel Vienna wants to point out and to once again efficiently counteract with high artistic standards”, says Stefan Bidner, artistic director of Parallel Vienna.
In cooperation with the Federal Chancellery of Austria there will be 400 artistic positions giving 10 international curators from Romania, Lithuania, Croatia, USA, Germany, Albania, Greece the room to create their own space on the 7000 square metres.
A guaranteed highlight will be the performance of the art-group Gelitin presenting their "human elevator" at the opening ceremony on September 20th.
Hermann Nitsch is invited for his performative screening (Sat. 24.9. - 3pm to 6pm) and the Austrian paintress and installation-artist Ona B. to an "artist talk" (Fri, 23.9. 5pm).
Furthermore there will be a special exhibition on photography, curated by Elfie Semotan and Stefan Bidner. And there will be fair-talks, panels and performances every evening.
